Travelling to Cassiopeia and back

When to go: We recommend that you plan your holiday in The Casamance between December and March, outside of the rainy season, when heavy rain can make the roads sometimes impassable. The poor state of some roads can make it interesting to say he least to travel during this season.

Flights: Abene is closer to the Gambian border than to Dakar. Flights to Banjul and Dakar are available all year.

As Abene is situated close to the Southern Gambian border, it is easier to fly to Banjul than Dakar. We are happy to arrange transport from the airport if you wish. The journey by road takes approximately 2 hours from Banjul Airport to Abene. Please be aware that travel in Senegal is expensive in relation to other African countries. The cost of travel to and from the airport is now around 45,000cfa each way. This was an average charge for the 2018 season.

However if you decide to fly to Dakar, please be aware that it takes a whole day to reach Abene by road. If you still book a flight to the capital, we will be happy to advise you on different types of transport available to use for this journey.

Please check beforehand if you need a visa to enter Gambia or Senegal other than those issued in-flight.
